This industrial city dates back to the end of the World War I. The city was first named Long-Sault, after the rapids that blocked the Ottawa River at that time. In 1888, Alex Lumsden built the first sawmill of significance in the Témiscamingue region, on the shores of Gordon creek. The city of Temiscaming owes its existence to the pulp and paper mill, built here in 1917.
